PMA Announces Robbie and Del Monte Fresh Produce as winners for the Packaging Impact Award:

The Produce Manufacturing Association (PMA) announced the winners of the 2010 Impact Award: Recognizing innovation and excellence in packaging. This is a global program recognizing only six companies throughout the supply chain who are maximizing the numerous opportunities to sell more fresh produce and floral through innovative packaging.

The prestigious award was presented at the 2010 PMA Fresh Summit Show in Orlando, Florida on October 16, 2010.
This year, all entries were reviewed and evaluated by a respected panel of judges utilizing a holistic approach against the following areas of consideration:
  • Marketing Excellence- Packaging that stands out with style, form and message. Distinctive materials, compelling graphics and clear messaging have been utilized to influence consumer attention and drive sales through product differentiation.
  • Food Safety Excellence- Packaging that employs food safety protocols to prevent food-borne illness through innovative use of actual packaging materials and/or components.
  • Supply Chain Efficiency/Functionality Excellence- Packaging that offers a unique design developed to create efficiencies for one or more segments of the supply chain (transportation, handling, storage and merchandising), extend product shelf life (MAP) or make fresh produce more convenient (microwavable tray packs) for the end consumer.
  • Sustainability Excellence – Packaging that meets the mission to reduce, reuse, and/or recycle along with recommended practices offered by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
Among the six winning entries was: Cored Del Monte Gold Extra Sweet Pineapple Cylinder in a Flexible Pouch; a joint submission by Del Monte Fresh Produce and Robbie Manufacturing.
